Benjamin and Eduardo Camp and their collaborator Evaristo lvarez founded the Matusalem brand in Santiago de Cuba in 1872, utilising a closely kept secret formula.
They combined their knowledge of the Solera system‘s distillation and blending methods, which were initially devised to make Spain’s renowned wine, sherries, brandies, and cognacs.
Matusalem Rum is now made in the Dominican Republic, where the soils and climate produce the highest quality sugar cane, which is employed in the family’s secret formula under the supervision of their expert blenders.
These expert blenders are all descendants of the founders and are dedicated to upholding the centuries-old Solera blending process. Various old aged Caribbean rums are meticulously combined with more flamboyant rums in the Solera blending process to create extraordinarily smooth, distinctive combinations.
Tasting Note
Matusalem Rum Gran Reserva has a gorgeous copper colour. A gentle nose of toffee and butter. A satiny entrance leads to a pleasant, fruity-yet-dry, medium-bodied palate with praline and brown spice aromas. Finishes with pleasant spicy oak flavours.
A well-balanced, velvety aged rum.

INGREDIENTS
- 50 ml. Matusalem Rum Gran Reserva 15.
- 20 ml. apple juice.
- 10 ml. fresh lemon juice.
- 10 ml. beetroot syrup.
- Garnish: wild hibiscus.
- Vessel recommendation: Jakobsen or martini glass.
METHOD
- Add the Matusalem Rum Gran Reserva 15 and the rest of ingredients to a shaker.
- Add ice and shake.
- Serve in a Martini glass and decorate with hibiscus.
