Ciu Ciu Le Merlettaie, Pecorino

Ciu Ciu Winery

Ciu Ciu is a family-owned organic winery established in 1970 and located just outside the medieval village of Offida in central Italy’s Marche region. Their wines express the local terroir between the Tesino and Tronto Rivers.

Viticulture for Ciu Ciu Le Merlettaie

The Pecorino grapes for Ciu Ciu Le Merlettaie grow 280 meters above sea level on spur-pruned cordon vines in clay-rich soils. This is a rare grape variety that thrives on the steep Piceno Apennine slopes.

Production

After late September harvest by hand, the Pecorino grapes ferment in oak barrels where Ciu Ciu Le Merlettaie ages on the lees for 6 months. This harmoniously enhances the grape’s strong personality and aromas.

Tasting Note

A deep straw yellow colour, Ciu Ciu, Le Merlettaie offers a very intense, persistent nose of grassy, floral hawthorn blossoms with vanilla oak hints.

The fresh, sapid palate shows agreeable softness and intensity of ripe pear, golden apple, and meyer lemon.

The finish is crisp and lingering.
